The Cooper T51 F1 OW 1959 was a single-seater open-wheeler racing car designed and built by the British company Cooper Car Company. First raced in the 1959 Formula One season, the Cooper T51 was an evolution of their successful Cooper T43 racer. The car featured a revolutionary design, with an aluminum body over a tubular-steel chassis and a race-proven 2.5-liter Coventry Climax V8 engine. The engine was housed in an innovative mid-mounted position, an innovation that would be adopted by most other F1 cars in later years. The body of the car was aerodynamic, with an oval or egg-shaped shape to reduce drag and keep the engines power in check. The car had an impressive top speed of 165 mph and was capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in just four seconds. The Cooper T51 was reliable, with only a few mechanical failures across the entire season. It was also known for its nimble handling and responsive steering, making it one of the most successful F1 cars of the era. Throughout its two years of competition, the Cooper T51 won six races and earned its first F1 Constructors Championship title in 1959. Its record would stand until 1966, when the more advanced Lotus 49 took the championship. The Cooper T51 has since become an iconic car of the F1 era, remembered for its innovation, reliability, and performance.
