The Citroen Mehari Van, unveiled in 1980, featured an entirely original design created to make the utilitarian four-wheel-drive preferred by military, utility, and commercial drivers more appealing to a wider consumer base. Despite its compact size, its interior featured plenty of head and legroom, as well as versatile storage space, proving an ideal vehicle for international travel and urban living. On the exterior, this remarkable van had a unique wedge-shaped body with a protruding nose, angular wheel arches, and large front grille, all elements exuding the brands signature European chicness. The uniform coat of matte white paint gave the vehicle a clean, contemporary aesthetic that was equally stylish and functional. A roll cage reinforced the bodys strength, while extra-tough crumple zones absorbed the force in the event of a collision. It also featured a host of convenience features, such as adjustable steering columns, adjustable seats, power windows and air conditioning. Ultimately, the Citroen Mehari Van was a revolutionary model that not only altered the publics perception of the utility van category but also served as a symbol of the eras changing automotive design.
