The 1974 Chevrolet El Camino Pick-up was a versatile vehicle that combined the look of a car with the usefulness of a pick-up truck. This model was part of the third generation of El Caminos which featured a revised body style with an improved suspension system and more powerful engine. Its signature body style featured a two-door pick-up body, muscular stance, and a boxy bed. This model was available in three different trim levels base, Custom, and Royal Knight each equipped with different engine sizes depending on the trim. On the exterior, the 1974 El Camino featured a NASA-style hood with foldable backlight windshield wipers, a black plastic grille, and a wide chrome bumper. It was available in a range of colors, including teal, red, white, black, and olive. The wide boxy bed featured a MaxTrax cross member to give the bed more storage capacity. The side buttons and door locks were standard. On the inside, the 1974 El Camino featured cloth bucket seats, a curved dashboard, and an instrument panel with built-in tachometer and clock. The climate control system featured three distinct fan speeds along with adjustable temperature settings. To personalize the interior, buyers had the choice of two interior trims, plus optional carpeting and upholstery colors. Air conditioning was optional. Under the hood, the 1974 Chevrolet El Camino was powered by a range of engines ranging from 4.1-liter to 7.4-liter V8s. The 8-cylinder engines produced up to 195 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque depending on the trim level. Three-speed and four-speed Turbo Hydramatic transmissions were offered. The El Camino featured a rear-wheel drive system, and drum brakes in the front and rear. For 1974, the Chevrolet El Camino Pick-up was a smooth-riding, powerful, and dependable vehicle. With its distinctive body style, multiple trim levels, and range of powerful engines, the El Camino was the perfect combination of style and function.
