Two different BMW model series are referred to as the BMW 8 Series. The first 8-series was produced from autumn 1989 to mid-1999 with the internal designation BMW E31. The second 8 Series has been produced in Dingolfing since August 2018 with the internal designation BMW G15 (Coup), followed in 2019 by the convertible BMW G14 and the four-door Coup BMW G16. Already in May 2017 the prototype of the second 8 series was presented as the BMW Concept 8 Series Coup, at the IAA 2017 the M8 GTE. The M8 Gran Coup (F93) was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018. BMW presented the production version of the coup on 15 June 2018 at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
