The Pe-2 was a Soviet-produced aircraft designed to be a light bomber throughout World War II. It was a dive bomber and was one of the most widely produced fighters of the war, with over 11,000 produced throughout the conflict. As a fighter, it was known for its speed, maneuverability and diving capabilities. The Pe-2 featured a high wing monoplane design with a long, slender fuselage. It was powered by two M-105P engines which provided a maximum speed of 583 km/h (362 mph). The plane was designed to be fast and highly maneuverable, and the innovative design allowed it to outmaneuver its Allied counterparts. It was equipped with four machine guns and could also carry bombs, making it a versatile weapon for medium level strategic bombing. During the war, the Pe-2 saw action in all fronts and was highly valued by the Soviet Air Force for its reliable performance.
