Specifications LaGG 3 blueprint

The LaGG 3 was a boosted monoplane fighter plane used by the Soviet Air Force during World War II. It was developed from the LaGG 1 fighter and was the first fighter used in production by the Soviet Union with an all metal airframe. The LaGG 3 was powered by a M-105PA engine and featured a large, robust fuselage with fixed landing gear, and a long nose and a well-streamlined canopy. The four-bladed propeller was made of solid wood, and the wings were fabric-covered. The two-seater cockpit was spacious and comfortable, but had poor visibility because windows were made of steel plates. Armament consisted of two synchronized 7.62mm machine guns and a 20mm gun in a fixed forward firing position. Additionally, the fighter could be equipped with extra bombs or rockets. The main weak point of the LaGG 3 was the slow and sluggish handling as well as the limited speed due to the poor engine performance. Furthermore, the wooden propeller was prone to mechanical failure because of its complexity and lack of proper maintenance. Despite its deficiencies, the fighter was manufactured in large numbers and extensively used during the war, where it was highly appreciated by its pilots.
